118 degrees? ‘Dangerously high’ temperatures could slam SLO County this week

Local agencies warned of “dangerously high” temperatures coming to parts of San Luis Obispo County next week, with some spots even having the potential to up up to 118 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, a heat wave is expected across much of California throughout the next week. In San Luis Obispo County, the NWS said a “reasonable worst case scenario” was that Paso Robles could hit 118 degrees on Friday and 117 degrees next Saturday.

In response, the agency issued an excessive heat watch. The watch is expected to be in effect from Tuesday morning through Saturday, and will include the Fourth of July.

The highest temperatures are expected after Wednesday.

San Luis Obispo is expected to stay mostly in the high 80s to low 90s throughout the event, according to the NWS. Coastal areas like Morro Bay will see temperatures in the high 60s to mid 70s.

The NWS predicted that surrounding areas could also reach triple digit temperatures with Santa Clarita, Palmdale, Ojai, Santa Ynez and Van Nuys all hitting 100 degrees or higher this week as well.
