2024 Emmys Predictions For Every Category
Variety‘s Awards Circuit is the home for all awards news and related content throughout the year. It features the official predictions for the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, and Tony Awards, curated by Variety senior awards editor Clayton Davis. The prediction pages reflect the current standings in the race and do not reflect personal preferences for any individual contender. As other formal (and informal) polls suggest, competitions are fluid and subject to change based on buzz and events. Predictions are updated every Thursday.

2024 Emmy Predictions: All Categories
Weekly Commentary (Updated: Sept. 9, 2024): Final Emmy voting is in progress and will close on Aug. 26, with several categories still up for grabs.
FX’s historical epic “Shōgun”—the second non-English language series nominated after Netflix’s “Squid Game” in 2022—leads this year’s nominations. Following closely behind is the network’s critically acclaimed series “The Bear,” which garnered 25 nominations in the comedy categories. Despite a significant 33% drop in overall submissions this year, Emmy voters have been genuinely inclusive during the first round of voting. This inclusivity highlights that diverse stories and talents resonate with audiences when given the platform.
However, it’s important to remember that the Emmys are never entirely predictable. As voting concludes, there’s always the potential for surprises and upsets.
Over its three seasons, “Abbott Elementary” has won four Emmy Awards and landed 20 nominations, with nine of those nods coming from the upcoming 2024 ceremony on September 15. According to series star Chris Perfetti, much of the ABC sitcom’s success is due to the “very specific and very real” cast of characters developed by “Abbott” creator, actress, and writer Quinta Brunson. The ensemble, creators, and director spoke about the joy of working on this truncated season at a recent Emmy FYC event.
Current predictions are below and updated on the individual category pages.
Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, the famed father-son duo who both won Emmys for “Schitt’s Creek,” will emcee this year’s ceremony, which will air live on ABC on Sunday, September 15. The Creative Arts and Governors Gala ceremonies will occur over two nights on Sept. 7-8.

About the Primetime Emmy Awards
The Primetime Emmy Awards, commonly known as the Emmys, are awarded by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). Established in 1949, these celebrate outstanding achievements in American primetime television. The Emmys are categorized into three divisions: the Primetime Emmy Awards for performance and production excellence; the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, recognizing achievements in artistry and craftsmanship; and the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards, which honor significant engineering and technological advancements. The eligibility period typically extends from June 1 to May 31 each year. The Television Academy hosts the Emmys and has over 20,000 members across 30 professional peer groups, including performers, directors, producers, art directors, artisans and executives.
