3 Yukoners among 2014 Yukon Quest mushers

There will be 20 mushers racing in this year's Yukon Quest, including the last two champions Allen Moore and Hugh Neff of Alaska.

Registration has now closed. Marie Belanger, the race's executive director, says a few more entries would have been nice but there's a good mix of rookies and veterans with the potential to win.

There are five Canadians entered, including three mushers from Yukon: Normand Casavant of Whitehorse, and Brian Wilmshurst and Jean-Denis Britten of Dawson City. A musher from Sweden has also entered, as well as a New Zealander living in Alaska.

The 1,600 kilometre sled dog race begins Feb. 1 in Fairbanks, Alaska. A winner should cross the finish line in Whitehorse about nine or 10 days later.
