Anna Faris and Julie Bowen are here for the power of sex appeal.
In an interview for Faris's podcast, Anna Faris is Unqualified, the actresses chatted about leaning into the sexier side of acting and pushing through jitters on set.
"I felt very uncomfortable around the crew for the first two weeks. I just wasn't used to exposing that much flesh," said Faris of her nerve-wracking experience rocking skimpy outfits and skyscraper heels for the 2008 comedy House Bunny.
Faris, 45, revealed that she had 72 wardrobe outfits for the film, had to wear "unbelievable" stripper heels, and was sewn into her outfits every day. The intensity of the get-ready process was almost as grueling as rocking said revealing outfits in front of strangers.
"It's not that I'm a modest person," she said. "I'm just more lazy."
Faris reflected on the film and how it pushed her out of her comfort zone and left her feeling sexier than ever in the end.
"It shifted me. I felt sexier, which I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing," said Faris of the transition.
Bowen says she is a fan of the switch.
"Stepping into sexy, that is not bad … There's a lot of power in putting a room of dudes on their back foot," said Bowen.
The women did touch on the dichotomy of wanting to be taken seriously as an actress while leaning into the confidence-boosting effects that come with being "sexy."
"I think the way I was raised, It feels sort of cheaply acquired power," said Faris of using sex appeal to command attention.
Bowen said she understood, but still thinks there is something to be said for how empowering the act can be.
"If putting that outfit on makes you feel sexy, then you get to do that, too. You get to be sexy if that's what works for you," said Bowen, adding that her choosing to dress "like a boy" is not any more mature than a woman opting for a sexy outfit.
"It's just a different way of approaching your own body, and neither one is comfortable, neither one is really truly at ease," she said. "And that is where I would like to be."
