There's nothing a fashion lover enjoys more than a show-stopping archival designer dress. Just ask noted style icon and couture enthusiast Anya Taylor-Joy, who pulled a truly stunning Paco Rabanne dress out of the archives for the Australian premiere of her new movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Anya Taylor-Joy posed on the red carpet in a Rabanne chain link dress from 1996, her skin covered in a layer of metal discs and beads — and arrows.

This isn't really a dress for sitting down in, given that a plethora of slim spears pop out from the dress, starting at the hip. Taylor-Joy paired the dress with a matching headpiece, covering her hair with a metallic cap covered in arrows. Taylor-Joy plays the young Furiosa in the action movie, part of the Mad Max franchise, and so the warrior-esque vibes of the dress make a lot of sense for her onscreen character and her journey.

This dress is special, as if you couldn't tell that just by looking at it. British Vogue notes that it's a "one-of-a-kind couture piece that was assembled by Paco Rabanne himself in his Paris atelier at the time." While Taylor-Joy probably didn't wear the dress to watch the movie — unless she did so standing up — it's easily one of the most stunning red carpet moments of the year thus far.

Taylor-Joy's Dune: Part Two costar Zendaya and her stylist Law Roach are the reigning champions of the unexpected archival pull. Do the words "Thierry Mugler suit of armor" mean anything to you? Zendaya wore the suit from the 1995-1996 couture collection for the London premiere of the film, solidifying it as one of her most iconic looks of all time. (Zendaya later said that the suit wasn't all that easy to wear, and she almost changed her plans, but we're glad she powered through.)

We're just a few days out from the Met Gala 2024, which is all about vintage pieces that are too precious and delicate to wear, so we're very excited to see how our favorite celebrities honor the beauty of the past with their looks — and hoping for some truly epic archival designs to walk the red carpet.
