Baby who tested positive for drugs abandoned at Myrtle Beach hospital. Here’s what we know

An infant who tested positive for drugs was abandoned at a Myrtle Beach hospital and a woman related to the case has been arrested, according to Myrtle Beach Police.

Abbie Ann Edmunds, 28, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child and trespassing on July 2, 2024.

An officer responded to a call pertaining to child neglect on June 26, 2024, in which it was reported that a urine test had been conducted on Edmunds on June 19, 2024, and it was positive for amphetamines, according to a police report. In addition, a urine test was conducted on the infant, which was also positive for amphetamines.

At the time of the report, the infant was still in the neonatal intensive care unit at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, 809 82nd Parkway. A neonatal unit is where newborn babies are placed for intensive medical treatment. It is unclear from the report if Edmunds is the mother of the child.

Because Edmunds’ location was unknown at the time, the infant was considered to be abandoned, according to the report.

The South Carolina Department of Social Services is also involved, the report said.

Edmunds remains in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $7,732 bond.
