A new Baywatch docuseries is on the way!

On Wednesday, July 10, ABC News Studios announced the upcoming After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun four-part series, which will take a deeper look into "the cultural phenomenon that defined an era," per a press release obtained by PEOPLE.

The docuseries will include "an unprecedented look into the stars who brought the world’s most famous lifeguards to life." The original show, which ran from 1989-2001, starred actors including Pamela Anderson, David Hasselhoff, Michael Newman, Yasmine Bleeth, Jeremy Jackson, and more.

It followed a team of lifeguards led by Lieutenant Mitch Buchannon (Hasselhoff) as they saved lives, dealt with personal dramas, fought crime, and participated in daily adventures on a Los Angeles beach.

"Through dozens of new cast interviews and never-before-seen footage, this docuseries unpacks how the show captured the mythology of California’s beach culture, set physical beauty standards for an entire generation, and capitalized on the adage 'sex sells,' " ABC News Studios' release said of the upcoming doc.

The docuseries will include exclusive interviews with over 35 of the show's creators and cast members — including Nicole Eggert, Carmen Electra, Billy Warlock, and Alexandra Paul — along with a never-aired-before chat with Anderson, who famously starred as C.J. Parker.

The series will also feature over a decade’s worth of never-before-seen home videos shot by the cast themselves.

"These candid and intimate clips offer viewers a unique glimpse into the real dynamics, struggles, friendships and moments that happened off-camera. The series also explores the show’s impact on pop culture and its enduring legacy," the release added.

After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun has been produced and directed by Matthew Felker in collaboration with ABC News Studios, while Baywatch star Nicole Eggert is among the producers.

"It was becoming really, really awful. They said they wanted me to do it as a favor," she recalled. "I said, 'I do favors for animals, not for Paramount.' There was just so much bullying to do it. They wanted me to do it for free, as an homage or something. I said, 'Come on, guys. I mean, really?' "

Eventually, the star agreed to do a cameo without any dialogue. "I ended up okay. No complaints," she said.

After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun begins streaming on Aug. 28, 2024 only on Hulu.
