BBC DJ Steve Wright dies aged 69
Broadcaster and veteran Radio 2 DJ Steve Wright has died at the age of 69.
News of his death was confirmed in a family statement on Tuesday (February 13), with his loved ones sharing their "deep sorrow" at his passing.
"It is with deep sorrow and profound regret that we announce the passing of our beloved Steve Wright," begins the statement.
"In addition to his son, Tom, and daughter, Lucy, Steve leaves behind his brother, Laurence and his father Richard. Also, much-loved close friends and colleagues, and millions of devoted radio listeners who had the good fortune and great pleasure of allowing Steve into their daily lives as one of the UK's most enduring and popular radio personalities.

"As we all grieve, the family requests privacy at this immensely difficult time," concluded the statement.
Wright enjoyed a long-standing career at the BBC, joining the company back in 1970 and going on to host afternoon shows on both BBC Radio 1 and 2 during his four-decade career. The presenter also fronted the popular charts show Top of the Pops.
Wright was last on air on Sunday (February 12), with the DJ hosting a pre-recorded Valentine's Day special of his regular Love Songs programme.

DJ Sara Coz announced the sad news to listeners today during her BBC Radio 2 late afternoon show, admitting it was "really hard to know what to say" about the loss.
"Steve was an extraordinary broadcaster, a really kind person, he was witty, he was warm, and he was a huge, huge part of the Radio 2 family, and I know my fellow DJs will all be absolutely shattered too," said Sara paying tribute.
BBC director general Tim Davie also shared a statement in reaction to the news, calling Wright the "ultimate professional".
"All of us at the BBC are heartbroken to hear this terribly sad news," he said. "Steve was a truly wonderful broadcaster who has been a huge part of so many of our lives over many decades.
"He was the ultimate professional - passionate about the craft of radio and deeply in touch with his listeners. This was deservedly recognised in the New Year Honours list with his MBE for services to radio.
"No-one had more energy to deliver shows that put a smile on audiences' faces. They loved him deeply. We are thinking of Steve and his family and will miss him terribly."
Radio 2 have confirmed that the station plan to celebrate and commemorate Wright's life with a range of programming.
