Beaufort Co. teen found with gunshot wound on back porch of Burton home Saturday morning

A Saturday morning shooting in northern Beaufort County sent one teenager to the hospital with a non-fatal gunshot wound, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived to a home on Burton’s Stanley Road just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday, finding an 18-year-old resident with a single gunshot injury on the back porch. He was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and later transferred to the Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, according to the Sunday afternoon alert.

Saturday morning’s shooting comes during an apparent surge in gun violence in communities north of the Broad River. One home on St. Helena’s Shiney Road was struck by bullets twice in the same day last week, with the second incident sending a 15-year-old girl to the hospital. A July 9 drive-by shootout on Possum Hill Road in Burton left a 29-year-old man dead and another shot in the arm. At the end of June, police found the body of a St. Helena man who was shot to death in his car on Harbor Breeze Drive.

A spokesperson from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office could not immediately be reached for additional information Monday morning.

Anyone with information about Saturday’s shooting is encouraged to contact Staff Sgt. Todd Duncan at 843-255-3418 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry tip line at 843-554-1111.
