Christina Applegate is Jealous of Jessica Alba's Post-Baby Body? I Hear Ya, C

What's with the celebrity baby body obsession anyway?

Christina Applegate took to Twitter the other day to speak for the 99.99% of moms who are neither Victoria Beckham nor Heidi Klum nor any of the celeb mothers whose bodies seems to be made out of a different, magical substance than the rest of ours: "Just saw a pic of Jessica Alba 3mths after giving birth. Happy 4 her for how amazing she looks but kind wanna kick her. #babyweightsux"

Yes indeed, Christina, baby weight sure does suck. And I too have wanted to kick Jessica Albaon more than one occasion. Kidding! (Sort of.) Seriously people, whatever happened to 9 months on, 9 months off? (Or, as in my case, 9 months on, 8-years-and-counting off...)

Of course -- who is Christina kidding -- she looks great. And her bambina is only 9 months old.

The real question here is ... why are we so freakishly obsessed with both celebrity baby bumps and celebrity post-baby bodies? Isn't is kind of bizarre? It seems like we can't go a single day without feverishly reading that someone is allegedly pregnant, someone has confirmed / denied being pregnant, someone seems to have a fake baby bump (I'm still confused about that one, Beyonce), someone has given birth (the miracle!), or someone has appeared in a bikini looking runway-ready a mere 35 seconds after giving birth.

Many days it's all of the above -- and usually the someones in question are accused via headline of "flaunting" or "revealing" their bumps / post-baby bodies -- even if they just left the house to get a cup of coffee.

People get pregnant and give birth every single day, all over the world, by the millions. What's so fascinating about the celebrity baby cycle? I admit I too am guilty of clicking on all those bump / baby / body headlines -- and, yes, I have been known to contribute to them. But honestly I'm not sure why. Is it because we love to compare our own bodies? We like to see celebs get "fat" even though they're not fat, they're pregnant? Is it just a natural extension of our general fascination with celebrities and their lives?

I'm not sure. I just know that if I never read another "post baby body" article again I'd be perfectly happy. But that doesn't mean I'll be able to resist the next time I see one. (Oh which reminds me ... did you hear the rumor? In Touch says Kate Middleton is expecting!)

What do you think? Are you equally (reluctantly) fascinated with celebrity baby news and bodies?
