Flashback Friday: Remember when Hedley’s Jacob Hoggard competed on ‘Canadian Idol’?

It's never too late for some vintage Hedley. Ahead of the 25th annual Much Music Video Awards this weekend (for which Hedley is nominated for six awards), we thought it was about time to recall the B.C. band's history with "Canadian Idol" in 2004.

A year after Hedley formed in 2003, frontman Jacob Hoggard reportedly made a $150 bet with his band that he couldn't make it to the Top 3 of the reality singing competition.

But, on the second season of "Canadian Idol," Hoggard won the bet -- despite his questionable electric-blue jumpsuit and his performance of David Bowie's "Space Oddity." However, he was eventually eliminated in the Top 3, with the trophy going to Alberta's Kalan Porter.

Following the competition, the original Hedley lineup dissolved and re-formed with new members. Hoggard enlisted Dave Rosin on guitar, Tommy Mac on bass and Chris Crippin on drums. The new band released their first album in 2005 and received a nomination for Rock Album of the Year at the 2006 Juno awards. Heldey has since released four more album, the most recent being "Wild Life" in November 2013.

Among the MMVAs for which Hedley are nominated this year are Video of the Year, Post-Production Director of the Year and Pop video of the Year for "Anything," while their song "Crazy For You" is up for Video of the Year.

The MuchMusic Video Awards airs Sunday, June 15 at 9 p.m. ET on MuchMusic.
