Mother bites the ear off pit bull when it attacks her toddler

You don’t know the lengths you will go in protecting your child until you become a parent.

When her two-year-old daughter was attacked by a neighbour's pit bull in Alvin, Texas, Chelsi Camp bit the ear off the vicious dog.

She knew that she had to do whatever it took to protect her little girl, Mackenzi, when the dog began to attack so she shoved her fists into the dog’s mouth and then she bit off its ear.

While fighting with the animal, she instructed Mackenzi to turn over so that she didn’t choke on her own blood, and somehow managed to phone the police.

“I only know to fight so how else would you get somebody to stop,” Camp explained of the attack. “I mean I would do the same thing with a human being.”

An officer who arrived on the scene shot the dog, but did not kill it.

But the damage was already done, and poor little Mackenzi’s face was brutally scarred.

Camp, who was dog-sitting the animal for a friend at the end of March, said that the dog always seemed friendly.

“The dog came up and he was just curious,” said Camp, recalling the traumatic event. “When he smelled her, that’s when you saw it flip because I think he smelled my dog on her.”

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Mackenzi’s sutures are being removed this week, but doctors have instructed that she must stay out of the sun for a year.

The hardest part for Camp was not being able to hold Mackenzi. Because of the injuries sustained to her hands during the attack, she temporarily lost the use of her arms.

Though scars remain, Mackenzi is back to being fun-loving two-year-old self. Even though he has not shown any psychological problems, Mackenzi will go through some psychological testing in the next few weeks.

“She’s a strong little girl and a fighter and she’s meant to be here,” Camp said.

Most shockingly, even after the attack she’s still not afraid of dogs.

The pit bull was later euthanized.
