Must-see videos of the week – August 2

A reporter comes up with a completely ridiculous way to keep dry while doing a story in Uttarakhand, India.

From a fight breaking out in Taiwan's parliament to an athlete trying to outrun a brand new jet, we've seen some awesome videos this week. Here are some of our favourites:

1. Reporter covers story while on shoulders of flood victim

Reporters have been known to do a lot of interesting things in their stand-ups. That's where the reporter speaks directly into the camera. Reporters have done stand-ups while skiing, driving, in helicopters, being blown over by a hurricane, you get the point. But one reporter in India may have them all beat for an interesting stand-up.

Narayan Pargaien, who works for the channel News Express, sat on the shoulders of a flood victim in Uttarakhand region. He was fired this week for performing this stunt, according to the Daily Mail. But Pargaien is blaming his cameraman for the stunt and says he was helping the victim. More than 1,000 people died in the flood.

2. Brawl breaks out in Taiwan's parliament

Fists have flown in the legislative bodies of Ukraine, Venezuela, Turkey, Jordan and now Taiwan. Politicians threw bottled water and punches Friday during a debate on whether to hold a referendum on a nuclear power plant. Construction of the plant began 10 years ago and it could begin operating in 2016, but if a referendum is held, the plant may not be able to open, according to The Hindu.

The closest brouhaha to happen in Canada's Parliament of late, was the December kerfuffle between House Leaders Peter Van Loan and Nathan Cullen, which emanated from a point of order on a budget bill. Then Defence Minister Peter MacKay came to the rescue. Good thing the aisle in the Canadian House is the width of two sword lengths to prevent fights.

3. Professional athlete tries to outrun jet

South African professional rugby player Bryan Habana is fast. In 2007, he has raced a cheetah. He had a 30-metre head start in a 100-metre race, but it was closer than many expected considering the cheetah can hit speeds of more than 110 km/h. That stunt was done to raise awareness of the cheetah being classified as an endangered species.

Now, Habana is back - racing something that is much faster. In a British Airline stunt, the athlete tries to outrun the new A380. The plane has four Rolls Royce engines and can hit speeds in the air of more than 1,000 km/h and Habana has his muscular legs so you can probably guess how this goes. Habana's advantage: the plane is massive and takes a long time to get up to speed so it's actually a lot closer than you may think.

4. Baby elephant makes big splash in Texas

It's hard not to enjoy watching babies do cute things, especially when they weigh more than 150 kilograms. This three-week-old toddler doesn't have to go on Maury for being overweight because it's an elephant. Belle was born July 7 at the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas and apparently really enjoys the new child's inflatable poll zookeepers put in the enclosure.

5. How to instantly cool a beer

As we get close to the middle of summer, this is a great instructional video to watch. As the guy says in this video, "it just sucks" to have a hot water or beer on a hot day. So he is sharing with us a trick to freeze it in seconds. Take a can of compressed air, turn it upside down and spray the bottle. Almost instantly there are ice chunks in the water. If you are doing this to a beer bottle, you may want to put a cozy over it before drinking. You don't need to freeze your hand off. That could make beer drinking more difficult.
