On Thursday, October 30, Dr. Trickster’s evil plan to destroy Halloween was foiled by a team of superheroes who rappelled from the roof of ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital, delighting the young patients inside.

For about a month, staff at the hospital had been working with members of the Toledo Police Department’s SWAT team to organize the impressive scene.

Patients at the children’s hospital were shown a “news” report about the villain, Dr. Trickster, who was plotting to destroy Halloween. (He was tricking people into giving him their treats, which could power a Weather Control Machine and ensure a terrible winter.)

Moments later, a dozen SWAT members, dressed in superhero costumes, began their descent down the building from the roof, thrilling the sick kids who were watching the scene from the other side of the glass.

True to character, Spider-Man even rappelled down the building upside-down, pausing at the fifth floor to wave to the children with their faces pressed against the windows.

Joining Spider-Man in the battle against the evil Dr. Trickster were Captain America, Superman, the Green Lantern, Wolverine, the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Batman, and three of the Ninja Turtles.

The kids cheered as the superheroes took Dr. Trickster into custody in a staged fight and arrest.

“It was cool,” Officer Matthew Slaman, who dressed up as Wolverine, said. “It was a lot of fun to see their faces light up, and hope it helps with the healing process.”

It was pretty cool," Nicholas Pinkstaff, an 8-year-old Toledo boy recovering from leukaemia, told the Toledo Blade.

Nicholas routinely dressed as superheroes when he visited the hospital to cancer treatments.

"Superheroes kind of helped me a little," he said. "It helped me get through cancer because I stuck up to them."

After Dr. Trickster was taken into custody, the superheroes celebrated inside the hospital with the kids.

Superheroes were busy on Halloween this year. They also scaled the walls at North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio and MUSC Children’s Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.
