Alec Baldwin’s alleged stalker charged after being arrested outside his New York apartment

A woman accused of stalking Alec Baldwin was arrested outside his home in New York City on Sunday, and charged on Monday with five misdemeanour offences.

Canadian actress Genevieve Sabourin was charged with aggravated harassment and stalking, and has since been released after being ordered to stay away from the 30 Rock actor, Reuters reports.

New York City criminal court Judge Richard Weinberg also ordered the 40-year-old actress to have "no contact whatsoever, direct or indirect" with Alec Baldwin.

The charges and arrest stem from Genevieve Sabourin's text messages and emails to Alec Baldwin after they met for dinner in autumn 2010. The actor's attorney said Alec Baldwin only agreed to meet her as a favour to a friend.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the case, Alec Baldwin found these emails and texts simply "annoying" at first, and he asked Genevieve Sabourin to stop.

However, the intensity and number of emails reportedly increased last week, with one example saying: "I NEED TO START MY NEW LIFE, WITH MY NEW NAME, WITH MY NEW CARRIER IN MY NEW COUNTRY HELP MY NEWLY HUSBAND, YOU!"

Following such emails, Alec Baldwin suffered "anxiety, annoyance and fear" for his safety and business.

Genevieve Sabourin's court-appointed attorney told Judge Weinberg the actress and actor "had a mutual relationship with texts, emails going in both directions" and "there is not a single threat here."

A new court date has been set for 14 May, following Genevieve Sabourin's court appearance and arrest.

Genevieve Sabourin is said to have arrived at Alec Baldwin's apartment in Manhattan on Sunday night and asked the doorman to contact the actor, TMZ reports.

Alec Baldwin was apparently at his other property in the Hamptons, but when the doorman told him who was there, the actor recognised her name.

He told the doorman not to allow her inside the building, then told the police, who arrived at the building and arrested the alleged stalker at 7.45pm for aggravated harassment and stalking.

This was the third time the 40-year-old actress allegedly attempted to meet the actor in the last fortnight.

On 31 March, Genevieve Sabourin allegedly went to Alec Baldwin's house in the Hamptons, then a few days later followed him to an event at the Lincoln Centre, NY Post reports.

Alec Baldwin became concerned and felt that Genevieve Sabourin had been stalking him, leading to a situation where both he and his fiancée, Hilaria Thomas felt threatened.

Alec Baldwin and his alleged stalker Genevieve Sabourin reportedly met when the actor was working on The Adventures of Pluto Nash in 2002.

It is reported that she recently began sending Alec Balwin emails and texts saying she wanted to have his baby, and also wanted to borrow money.

Alec Balwain's rep, Matthew Hiltzik told TMZ: "As you know, stalking is a serious issue, so we've turned this matter over to the New York Police Department."
