Bruins' Milan Lucic Pleads Not Guilty to Alleged Assault After Being Accused of Choking His Wife

Boston Bruins player Milan Lucic pled not guilty to a charge of assault and battery during a hearing in Boston Municipal Court on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Court records obtained by NBC Boston and The Boston Globe state that Lucic, 35, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Saturday for allegedly attempting to choke his wife, Brittany Lucic, and pulling her by her hair during a dispute.

Lucic was charged with assault and battery on a family member. He was released on personal recognizance bail, per NBC's reporting.

The altercation between the athlete and his wife allegedly began when Lucic grew upset after struggling to locate his phone once he returned home that evening, according to court records obtained by the outlets.

When Brittany told Lucic she didn't know where his phone was, police allege the athlete “grabbed her by the hair and pulled her backwards,” per the report obtained by the Globe. “She stated that in doing so, the suspect stated to her that she was not going anywhere,” the report stated.

Brittany reportedly called 911 and claimed that her husband "began yelling at her, demanding his phone back, believing she had hidden the phone," once officers met with her inside the lobby of the couple's apartment building, per the Globe.

Lucic "appeared intoxicated when he answered the door," according to the police report, and, “He stated to officers nothing happened and did not provide an explanation," officials said.

According to NBC, Lucic did not speak during Tuesday's hearing except for when he addressed the judge.

Lucic's bail conditions include a no-abuse order, per NBC, and Lucic is required to refrain from drinking alcohol for the duration of his case.

The court granted Lucic his request, and requested an unredacted version of the police report, per NBC. The outlet reported that an additional motion was granted by the judge on Tuesday, but said the content of that filing was not made public.

However, according to ESPN, Lucic's attorney was granted a motion asking that he be allowed to attend the next hearing by video call.

A pretrial date was scheduled for Jan. 19, but Lucic will not be required to appear in person, according to the reports.

Lucic and Brittany tied the knot in 2012, according to a report from Boston.com at the time.

Drafted by the Bruins in the second round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Lucic spent his first eight years in the league playing in Boston.

He also played for the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames before returning to the Bruins on a one-year, $1 million contract. The Bruins have placed Lucic on an indefinite leave of absence from the team.
