Chad Michael Murray Teases a Surprise Coming Up for “A Cinderella Story”'s 20th Anniversary

Murray, 42, who costarred with Hilary Duff in the 2004 romantic comedy; was promoting his upcoming Netflix movie Mother of the Bride on the Today show on May 7, and shared in a behind-the-scenes video on TikTok that he plans to surprise fans of the movie to celebrate the film's 20th anniversary soon.
"Do you realize this July is the 20th anniversary of Cinderella Story? Crazy, right?" Murray said, after answering fan questions sent to Today's TikTok page. "Next week, we're going to do a little Austin Ames wink and a nod to the fans. You'll see."
A Cinderella Story starred Duff, now 36, as a Los Angeles high school student named Sam in a 2000s-set retelling of the popular Cinderella fairy tale. Murray portrays love interest Austin Ames.
The plot revolves around Sam and Austin's anonymous online pen pal relationship, which leads to a romantic night at a school Halloween dance and a twisting plot until the pair get together.

Murray recalled filming the movie's climactic kiss scene during a football game on Today's TikTok video and said he recently heard Jimmy Eat World's "Hear You Me," which brought him right back to that moment.
"I remember when I looked up in the stands and I'm running up and I'm in cleats on this metal bench and they're like 'don't slip' and it's watery because we've had rain previously," the actor said. "I was in the car and someone sent me a video from that song blaring out, that's playing at that moment. And literally, it brought back a wave of memories. That song was iconic in that moment."

Aside from Murray and Duff, A Cinderella Story also featured Jennifer Coolidge, Regina King, Dan Byrd and Simon Helberg among its cast.

Elsewhere during Murray's appearance on Today, he spoke about the long-lasting impact of his long-running CW show One Tree Hill and teased Mother of the Bride, which costars Brooke Shields, Miranda Cosgrove, Sean Teale, Benjamin Bratt, Rachael Harris, Wilson Cruz, Michael McDonald, Tasneem Roc and Dalip Sondhi. The movie revolves around Shields' character attending her daughter's destination wedding, only to realize the groom's father is an ex-boyfriend from years past.
Mother of the Bride premieres on Netflix on May 9.
