Earl Charles Spencer has hired the same divorce attorney used by King Charles in his infamous 1996 divorce from Spencer's older sister, Princess Diana.

According to The Times, the 9th Earl Spencer hired Fiona Shackleton to take on his divorce from wife Karen Spencer, which was announced earlier this month. Back in the '90s, Shackleton represented the then-Prince Charles during his and Diana's very public divorce after 11 years of marriage. The couple had initially separated in 1992 before finalizing the divorce in 1996. Princess Diana tragically died in a Paris car crash in August 1997.

Queen Elizabeth previously appointed Shackleton to be a life peer, giving her the title Baroness Shackleton of Belgravia, per the Daily Mail. Prince Andrew also tapped the lawyer in his divorce from Sarah Ferguson.

Spencer announced his split from wife Karen last week during an interview with The Mail on Sunday. "It is immensely sad," he said. "I just want to devote myself to all my children and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future."

The two tied the knot in 2011 and share 12-year-old daughter Charlotte Diana. The earl was previously married to Victoria Lockwood, with whom he shares four children, and Caroline Freud, with whom he has two kids.

Last month, Earl Charles and his and Diana's other sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, showed their support for Prince Harry by attending the 10th year anniversary celebration for the Invictus Games. Harry's cousins, Lara Spencer, Louis Spencer, and George McCorquodale, were also in attendance, according to Town & Country. Harry's immediate family—King Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton—were invited, but chose not to make an appearance.
