Charli XCX Confirms Rumor She Was Asked to Write Songs for Britney Spears: 'She Didn't Record It'

The pop star opened up on the Monday episode of 'Watch What Happens Live' about the persistent gossip

Charli XCX finally addressed a huge pop music rumor.

On Monday, May 6, the "Vroom Vroom" singer, 31, appeared on Watch What Happens Live alongside Joe Manganiello, where she revealed that she was asked to write songs for someone very "famous."

After a fan asked if there was any "truth" to the rumor that she was writing songs for a new Britney Spears album, Charli hesitated before revealing her side of the story.

"Um, yes, but, it leaked to the press. Britney was then, did this post where she was like 'I don't have random people write for me.' And I was like, 'Oh, OK. Go off,' she quipped.

Charli added: "So I don't know that she was a part of the process, but maybe her team was running before they could walk. Britney probably has a load of other projects that she's focusing on."

"So I did get asked, but I don't know if it's real," the "Boom Clap" artist concluded.

Host Andy Cohen then asked Charli if she had written anything "in the hopes of" Spears recording it, to which she replied: "Of course, yeah I went to Malibu and I wrote. You always write songs hoping Britney is gonna to record them because she's the queen of pop."

"She didn't record it, so, she obviously didn't. Random," she teased, pointing at herself.

Charli still hopes Spears might record one of her songs.

"I love her," she said. "It would be a dream come true."

Cohen, 55, then tried to comfort Charli by suggesting she wasn't the "random" person Spears was referring to in her aforementioned Instagram post.

"Maybe, maybe not," she said.

"Newsflash: you ain't rando," the host told her.
