Chiefs’ Travis Kelce shares insights from being at Taylor Swift’s London shows

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce didn’t break social media on Sunday, but they certainly dominated what people were sharing.

Kelce, the Chiefs tight end, is accustomed to performing in front of sold-out stadiums, and he looked right at home when he joined Swift on stage at her Eras Tour show in London.

This time, however, Kelce was in a tuxedo and top hat as 90,000 fans screamed in delight. It capped a huge weekend of fun for the Chiefs tight end, who danced with Tom Cruise, Greta Gerwig, Paul McCartney and other celebrities he met at Wembley Stadium.

Kelce talked about the London shows on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast.

“I remember in 2015 playing in front of 80,000 in Wembley Stadium and then seeing Tay up there going crazy,” Kelce said. “They get a lot louder for Taylor than they do for American football.”

Jason Kelce, who was at two of the London shows with his wife Kylie, added: “They’re also cheering on all the players on the field, it’s not just one person up there on stage. It was insanely impressive.”

What really impressed Jason was Swift’s stamina.

“Obviously, Taylor’s an amazing singer-songwriter, but then to be able to go out there and be a performer at that level,” he said. She was up there for like three and a half hours. Four hours.

Travis said: “Yeah. 45 songs, bro.”

“Oh my gosh, if I did what she did for one song, I would have to change my clothes,” Jason noted.

“I’m in the tent,” Travis said, “like, ‘gosh, I need a break.’”

Jason also loved the acoustic set ath concert, and Travis gushed about his girlfriend.

“She makes every show unique with the acoustic set,” Travis noted. He added: “On top of that, it like puts everybody in a room with Taylor. It’s not a stadium anymore.”

Jason added: “You’re 90,000 people, but for some reason it feels like you’re in a bar just listening to somebody play on a piano.”

Meeting Prince William

The latest episode of the podcast was recorded in London and it seems likely it was before Kelce joined Swift on stage Sunday because they didn’t talk about that.

But they did mention Travis Kelce meeting Prince William, who took two of his kids to Friday’s show. Turns out, Jason Kelce was there, too.

“He was so cool,” Travis Kelce said of Prince William. “I didn’t realize this because obviously we were backstage meeting him because he was there with little George and Charlotte and they were an absolute delight to meet. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to like bow to them, curtsy, just be an American Idiot and shake their hands, ‘What’s up dude?’”

Jason Kelce added: “They were wonderful people. And that’s what it’s about. Obviously literally part of a monarchy. Royalty. Hard to be a down-to-earth human being I would assume. But came off that way completely.”

The brothers talked about Jon Bon Jovi inviting Prince William to sing “Livin’ On A Prayer” with Taylor Swift. It wasn’t clear if they were referencing a 2013 meeting of those three or if they did it again this past weekend.

One member of the Royal Family made a great impression on Jason: 9-year-old Princess Charlotte.

“Prince William was fantastic. But the highlight was Princess Charlotte. Prince George was great, too,” Jason said. “She was so adorable.

“I don’t know maybe because I have three girls now. She had a fire to her, she was asking questions. That was the most electric part.”

Travis Kelce summed up the meeting.

“So thank you, Your Royal Highness, it was awesome meeting you,” he said. “And Charlotte and George.”
