Chrissy Teigen Is ‘Begging’ the Emmys to Have a Chicer Red Carpet: 'It Seems So Simple'
She just wants some floral decor — and we can't help but agree!
Chrissy Teigen didn't walk the 2023 Emmys red carpet on Monday night, but she still had a lot to say about the look of it.
As the pre-show played out, all eyes were on the gorgeous gowns, the dapper tuxes and that one puzzling green goblin, but even all the glamour couldn’t take away from the appearance of the step and repeat.
Viewers quickly took to social media to shade the black backdrop plastered with the words “Emmys” and “Fox” in loud lettering, one person sharing on X (formerly Twitter): “The Emmys step and repeat looks like the construction site of a luxury building with zero amenities.”
Teigen, 38, joined the discourse too, taking to Instagram the night of to share her opinions. “I am begging award shows to have better looking step and repeats. It seems so simple. Some floral and simplicity. God I pray,” she wrote.
The last time the former Lip Sync Battle host was at the star-studded event was in 2022, when she walked the carpet in a pink abstract Naeem Khan gown, then pregnant with her and husband John Legend’s daughter, Esti Max.
She and the “All of Me” singer, who wore a cream-colored Gucci tuxedo with an oversize black bowtie, posed in front of a much more subdued teal image with accents of gold (not florals but a good runner-up).
The couple, who also share daughter Luna, 7, and sons Miles, 5, and Wren, 7 months, attended the Emmys in 2015 and 2018. Each time they brought their signature couple style, with Teigen showing off her sexy style and Legend opting for a tailored suit.

Despite the red carpet disappointment, the Emmys shaped up to be an impressive night.
Quinta Brunson and Ayo Edebiri winning their respective trophies marked the first time a pair of Black actresses scored in two comedy categories in the same year. Christina Applegate, glammed up in a velvet Christian Siriano gown and Doc Marten boots, made a brave return with class and humor (one of her iconic lines of the night: “Oh my God, you're totally shaming me with disability by standing up. It's fine . . . Body not by Ozempic!").
And there were tons of reunions with the casts of beloved shows, including Grey’s Anatomy, Cheers, Martin and Ally McBeal.
There were also a few relatable celebrity moments, including Edebiri fixing Rhea Seehorn's makeup on the carpet and Selena Gomez receiving an air kiss from her boyfriend Benny Blanco, who supported the Only Murders in the Building nominee from the sidelines before they headed into the Peacock Theater.
