CIP grant aids downtown building renovation in Dundalk

A grant of $10,000 to AC Capital Rentals will help fund replacement of the roof over Dundalk Auto Glass space.

Economic development officer Brenna Carroll presented the application and got council approval in March for the application under the Community Improvement Plan program.

The program, aimed at improving downtown and commercial throughout the township hasn’t received many applications.

Ms Carroll is promoting the program while she does related economic development work.

STEEL ROOF PLANNED

The building, owned by AC Capital Rentals, Inc., is located to the left and rear of the Dundalk Olde Town Hall on the corner of Main and Artemesia Streets, at 66 Main St. E.

The building has three commercial units and one residential unit with four bedrooms.

The total cost of replacing the section of roof is about $20,000, and aims to replace the shingled roof with metal which is used in the main part of the building.

The specific grant is under the Building and Lands Improvement grant, for which the maximum is $12,000 or 50 percent of the cost.

The owner has done other upgrades including brand new fire alarms, and hopes to update the facade in the future, the report says.

Southgate will have a total of about $100,000 left in its reserves – which includes $40,000 budgeted by the township and $60,000 that was transferred from the county.
