City/County All-Star softball: One final time in school uniform as players share moments
The County All-Star team continued its dominance in the annual 42nd City/County All-Star high school softball game.
The County defeated the City 9-7 at Fresno State’sMargie Wright Diamond on Wednesday night.
Gizelle Aguirre (Caruthers) and Stephanie Sanchez (Fowler) each drove in two runs for the County.
The County has won four straight games in the annual All-Star game.
Awards were also given out.
Kiara Sipe of Clovis North was named the City’s Most Valuable Player. Karissa Hawkins of Bullard was the City’s Most Inspirational Player. On the County side, Arabella Palma of Central was the MVP while Frankie Galvan of Central was the Most Inspirational.
No matter the result, players were happy to be a part of the all-star game representing their team’s uniform one final time.
Just ask Garza’s Jenessa Sanchez who pitched 1.2 innings.
She was happy to represent the Guardians for the first time in the all-star game.
“It’s a fun experience,” she said. “I’m just hoping to have fun and play my game.”
Others like Reedley’s Candince Moreno-Hairabedian said the excitement was in the air prior to the game.
She was happy to mingle with her friends one final time before they go their separate ways.
“We’re from different schools, so we’re probably going to come together and put our skills together,” she said.
“Obviously just have a blast for our school the last time.”
On the City side, Clovis North’s Kiara Sipe and Emma Blea described the atmosphere as “it’s the competition at the highest.”
“It’s exciting and we get to come out here and plain in front of the big crowd.”
Blea said it felt like a regular game.
“You just got to cheer like a regular game.”
Bullard’s Juju Martinez said despite only having two practices, her teammates are a “great group of girls.”
“The girls worked their whole life for this,” she said. “I think we’re all super excited to play one last game and even meet girls that we’ve known and played against for these four years.”
