Coaches name 2023 Ms. Kentucky Volleyball and high school all-state teams

The Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association has announced its 2023 All-State teams, Ms. Kentucky Volleyball, defensive player of the year and coach of the year.

Julia Hunt, a 6-foot-1 senior middle blocker from Covington Holy Cross, was named Ms. Kentucky Volleyball. Committed to Washington to continue her playing career, Hunt led the state with a 6.93 kills per set average, totaling 658 kills this season. She also led her team with 114 blocks. She is the first Ms. Kentucky Volleyball for her school.

Kristen Simon, a 5-7 libero from Assumption, was named defensive player of the year. The Wisconsin commit had more than 400 digs and a 4.37 digs per set average.

Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Jenni Morgan was named 2023 coach of the year. Morgan led the Bulldogs to a 33-8 record and a second straight 11th Region championship and state tournament appearance. This is the second coach of the year honor for Morgan this season. She was also recently recognized by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

Paul Laurence Dunbar placed two players on the first team. They are Delaney “DJ” Gash, a 5-11 outside hitter committed to Akron, and Isabela Haggard, a 5-11 junior setter committed to Indiana. Lexington Catholic’s Addie Lowe, a 6-0 junior outside hitter made second team. Honorable mentions included Dunbar libero Mia Telechbush and Sayre outside hitter/middle blocker Reese Collins.
