Community Services Recovery Fund: Celebrating successes and future needs in Windsor-Essex

The WindsorEssex Community Foundation, United Way Centraide Windsor-Essex County, MP Irek Kusmierczyk (Windsor-Tecumseh), and local recipient organizations of the Community Services Recovery Fund gathered at Art Windsor-Essex to celebrate the successful culmination of their projects funded by a historic investment in the community.

Local recipient organizations shared their success stories and the fund's impacts and discussed future and ongoing needs during a roundtable discussion led by MP Irek Kusmierczyk.

Over the past year, fifty-one local community service organizations across Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, which are at the forefront of addressing community needs, have leveraged funding provided by the Community Services Recovery Fund to make significant strides.

"Local organizations are working day in and day out on the frontlines building stronger and healthier neighbourhoods in Windsor-Essex County. Our federal Community Services Recovery Fund, delivered in partnership with United Way and Community Foundations of Canada, over the past year has supported the vital work and boosted these organizations' ability to serve residents in our community," said MP Irek Kusmierczyk.

"This past fall, with the WindsorEssex Community Foundation and United Way Centraide Windsor-Essex County, we announced this incredible initiative! Almost a year later, with the culmination of the fund, we have come together to reflect on the journey of each one of these organizations, celebrate successes and achievements, acknowledge contributions, and discuss future and ongoing needs. This morning has been a testament to the power of community, collaboration, and commitment. Congratulations to all the tremendous organizations for your dedication, hard work, and unwavering spirit that has brought to life the projects and initiatives funded through the Community Services Recovery Fund, which are making a tangible difference in our community," added Irek Kusmierczyk.

The Community Services Recovery Fund is a historic one-time investment of $400 million that has helped community service organizations to adapt, modernize, and be better equipped to improve the efficiency, accessibility, and sustainability of the community services they provide so they can continue to support communities across Canada through the pandemic recovery and beyond. The fund is a collaboration between the Canadian Red Cross, Community Foundations of Canada, and United Way Centraide Canada. The unique nature of the fund is designed to respond to the current needs of community service organizations and support them as they adapt to the long-term impacts of the pandemic.
