The scenes come after actor David Neilson told This Morning of his surprise that Roy had never before spent time in jail until the recent storyline.

"He's his own worst enemy! I mean, he needs support from himself, he puts himself there. I'm amazed that [Roy] haven't been in prison before because everyone else has!" he said.

Roy was in jail over the suspected murder of Lauren Bolton. Joel Deering was revealed to be the culprit behind Lauren's disappearance, although Nathan Curtis has been arrested for the crime after being framed.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
