Doctor Who's spinoff scene honours iconic companion
Doctor Who spin-off special Tales of the TARDIS has honoured classic companion Sarah Jane Smith.
The new episode, which debuted last night (June 20), continues the specials which began as part of the show's 60th anniversary last year.
In the opening scene, Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor and Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday reflect on the return of Sutekh and how they can take the classic villain down.

However, during the brief chat, the Doctor looks back fondly on his adventures with Sarah Jane, recalling "good times".
"I travelled with this amazing friend, like you," he tells Ruby. "Her name was Sarah Jane Smith and we had some good times…".

Sarah Jane (played by the late Elisabeth Sladen) was known for her travels with Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor and Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor – Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor even wears a poncho in the new scene reminiscent of Baker's outfit.
She later returned in the modern era under David Tennant's Tenth Doctor, and was given her own spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures.

The current season is gearing up for its big finale this weekend following the recent twist that unveiled Sutekh.
The upcoming episode, titled 'Empire of Death', will see an appearance from Fleabag star Sian Clifford, who plays the mysterious role of Kind Woman.
Teasing Clifford's character recently, showrunner Russell T Davies told The Official Doctor Who Podcast: "Everyone's fighting and winning and losing but far away on a distant planet, a kind woman is waiting with something absolutely vital."
Doctor Who debuts new episodes at midnight on Saturday, airing on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
