Man, woman shot dead in Burnaby restaurant

Police have identified the male victim in an apparent double homicide in a Burnaby, B.C., sushi restaurant.

A man and a woman were found shot to death inside the restaurant Sunday night.

The male victim is Burnaby resident Huong (Andy) Tran, 36, said Sgt. Jennifer Pound, of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Pound said the female victim had been identified but that her name would not be made public until family notification is complete.

The incident does not appear to be a murder-suicide, the victims are not known to police and the deaths do not appear to be gang related, said Pound.

Police have not said if the two people worked at the restaurant, but have confirmed the business was closed at the time of the shooting.

Pound said a passerby first called 911 at about 9:30 p.m. PT Sunday after spotting a person lying on the floor of the business, just a few blocks east of the busy Metrotown mall.

When police arrived they found the second body inside the sushi restaurant, located in the 6500 block of Royal Oak Avenue.

The first officers at the scene determined both deaths appeared suspicious and alerted the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Police have not publicly identified any suspects in the case.
