Driver apprehended after firing at two vehicles on SR 8 near McCleary Monday night

A suspect is in custody after firing multiple rounds from his vehicle at two other vehicles on eastbound State Route 8 near McCleary Monday evening.

Both vehicles were struck, but no injuries were reported, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The suspect was apprehended by the McCleary Police Department after one of the other drivers went to the police station to report the incident. The suspect was charged with six counts of first-degree assault, DUI, reckless driving, and drive-by shooting, according to the WSP.

A WSP spokesperson told McClatchy that it is unknown why the suspect shot at the other vehicles, but noted that he is “known by law enforcement to have previous mental health issues.”

The spokesperson also noted that the suspect was found to be under the influence of a “drug/intoxicating substance.”
