A 58-year-old driver is dead after his passenger vehicle rear-ended a commercial vehicle in Caledon on Tuesday morning, Ontario Provincial Police say.

In a news release, the OPP's Caledon detachment says the fatal collision happened on Humber Station Road, north of King Street. Police were called to the scene just before 11 a.m.

The driver, of Mono, Ont., was airlifted to a trauma centre in the Toronto area and was later pronounced dead.

A stretch of Humber Station Road was closed for several hours to allow officers to investigate but it has since reopened.
