Emily in Paris season 4 isn't set to premiere on Netflix until later this summer, but talk about a fifth season has already begun to stir.

Emily in Paris season 5 was confusingly mentioned at the amfAR Gala on May 23, 2024 during this year's Cannes Film Festival in the South of France. The annual charity event, which raises money towards HIV and AIDS research, had a special item auctioned off by model Winnie Harlow and musician Paris Jackson, “courtesy of Darren Star," the creator of Emily in Paris.

“I know we are in a spending mood right now, I see a lot of things going to auction very well,” Harlow addressed the audience in a video posted to X by Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh. (Watch the clip here.)

“One of you is going to leave here tonight with a walk-on role in season 5 of the hit TV show Emily in Paris,” Jackson said while presenting the auction item with the Emily in Paris logo blown up on a screen behind her. Harlow hyped up the sale with a positive “Purr!” Never underestimate the power of Emily — according to Setoodeh's follow-up post, “The role sold for 250,000 euros.”

Per a new report from Variety, an insider has confirmed that the Netflix series has not been renewed for a fifth season. The official description of the auction item on the amfAR website details the walk-on role as “contingent upon season 5 pickup.” According to Variety, the initial language used to describe the opportunity on the site and by Harlow and Jackson did not include the contingency aspect — it implied that season 5 was already in development. Now, the description ends with this offering: “To tide you over until then, the winning bidder and a guest are invited to attend the Los Angeles premiere of Emily In Paris Season 4 this August."

The latest official update on the Netflix show came just last week from series star Lily Collins, who posted an Instagram Reel of herself dancing in costume.

“That’s a wrap on season 4! It’s definitely been the most colorful, adventurous, and insanely fun one yet," Collins wrote in the caption. "I’m beyond grateful to my entire crew and cast for their tireless dedication and unparalleled passion. You’re all truly the best. I cannot wait to share what we’ve created together. And I REALLY hope we all get to do it again. Grazie Mille @emilyinparis family…”

Earlier this month, Netflix confirmed that season 4 would arrive on the streamer in August and be split into two parts; Part 1 of season 4 will debut on August 15 and Part 2 on September 12. The show wrapped filming in France in late April 2024, quickly moving on to the next shooting location: Rome, Italy.

An early green light for season 5 would not be out of the ordinary, especially considering that back in January 2022, Netflix gave the series an early double renewal for seasons 3 and 4 only one month after the release of season 2.
