Emmerdale producer announces dramatic stunt week

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's new producer Sophie Roper has announced plans for some dramatic stunts later this year.

The ITV soap will be upping the ante with an action-packed week of episodes, which is already being filmed by cast and crew.

Roper shared the news at her first Emmerdale press conference since being appointed to the role of producer.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media, Roper explained: "We've got a lot of stunts coming up – some we're actually filming this week.

"I'm not going to tell you too much, I'd get in trouble with the press team at my first press conference! But what I can tell you is there will be fire engines involved, so take from that what you will."

She added: "It's going to be a really explosive week of Emmerdale."

No further details have been revealed at this stage, although the scenes seem likely to feature Cain Dingle.

Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona Goskirk, recently told The Sun that her real-life husband Jeff Hordley has got "a massive stunt in two weeks involving fire and I think someone will get quite badly injured in that".

The show traditionally films scenes six to eight weeks in advance, which means the stunt scenes are likely to hit our screens in late August or early September.

So far, 2024 has been a quieter year for stunts on Emmerdale as many of the show's most dramatic events have taken place off-camera.

The New Year car crash which killed Heath Hope didn't take place on screen in January, with the show focusing on the emotional aftermath rather than the stunt itself.

A similar approach was taken with Nicky Miligan and Ethan Anderson's car crash in May, as well as Ruby Fox-Miligan vengefully knocking over Ethan in the soap's recent 10,000th episode.

Roper is co-producer of Emmerdale alongside Laura Shaw. She was promoted last month after Kate Brooks moved over to lead fellow ITV soap Coronation Street.

Speaking yesterday, Roper commented: "I've been at Emmerdale for eight years now. I'm a former story producer here, so I've lived and breathed the show for a fair old while now.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me to produce and see that vision from the very start of [story] ideas, all the way through to what makes it to screen as well.

"We've got some brilliant storylines hitting at the moment. There's lots of drama in the Dales that you're watching on screen, which we're continuing to see as we go through the summer into the New Year – very much keeping Emmerdale on top form."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
