Emmerdale's Rhona makes major court decision

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Rhona Goskirk made a shocking decision during her ex-husband Gus's court hearing in Emmerdale.

Earlier this month, Rhona was acquitted of kidnapping baby Ivy following a contentious trial — but her days in court weren't finished as Gus was on trial next.

Gus has found himself at the mercy of the court for stealing Rhona's embryos to impregnate his late wife Lucy.

Wednesday's (April 24) episode opened with Rhona feeling nervous to attend Gus's sentencing hearing later in the day.

While Marlon tried to be supportive of his wife, he was alarmed to see how worried Rhona seemed to be about having to read a statement of support for Gus.

Rhona ultimately made a spur-of-the-moment decision to change her speech and deliver the truth about the way Gus's reckless decision had changed her life forever.

Marlon watched on from the gallery as his wife condemned Gus for stealing her eggs and then threatening to leave the country with Ivy once she was born.

"After everything he put us through, he said he wanted to step up and be her daddy," Rhona recalled. "No, he was taking her abroad. He had decided he was taking her abroad and he was saying I was an unfit mother.

"And then, I was arrested and charged with kidnapping my own child!"

The judge sided with Rhona and administered a very harsh sentence on Gus, ordering him to serve eight years behind bars.

Once they got home from court, Marlon questioned why Rhona would completely change course without at least speaking to him about it.

"I just felt I had to tell the truth," Rhona insisted.

Marlon replied: "You telling the truth is not my problem. It's not sharing it with me in the first place. That kind of thing is becoming a habit… I mean, I don't recognise you anymore!"

Soap bosses have confirmed that a special episode is in the works which will examine problems in Marlon and Rhona's marriage, as well as Tom King's escalating abuse of wife Belle.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
