She is a diamond, indeed-this property, that is! The fact that Tony Award-winning actress and singer Patti LuPone once owned this home becomes almost a footnote once you see the photos-it's that beautiful.

Perched on top of a plateau in Kent, Connecticut, just 90 minutes from Manhattan, the classic New England farmhouse boasts beautiful mountain views and an authentic Civil War-era cabin, which was relocated from Indiana and serves as a rustic guest house and pool house.

The 85-acre estate at 23 Kane Mountain Road, which real estate agents are touting as "The House That Evita Built" because of its LuPone link, is currently for sale for $2,750,000.

"So many things stand out as far as what makes the property special," current owner Jay Pelosky tells CountryLiving.com. "First is the privacy …with a driveway that is nearly .5 miles long, no one even knows we are up here. When you look at the house from the air it stands virtually alone on the mountain with nothing but woodlands surrounding it. The property is completely peaceful and serene with virtually no noise, except the occasional car going along Anderson Road or a small plane flying overhead. You can hear the birds, the rush of the wind in the trees, the stream bubbling away."

Inside, the 3,500 square foot home holds four bedrooms, three and a half baths, plank oak flooring, beamed ceilings, gourmet kitchen, and five floor-to-ceiling stone fireplaces.

Pelosky and his family painted the home upon moving in and replaced the roof. Recently, they also renovated the entire interior, opening up the rooms, adding new windows and a skylight, and updating the kitchen and all the bathrooms.

Second only to the privacy is the view, Pelosky continues. "Looking out over Kent Hollow with only a house or two in the distant view. The house sits up at about 1,300 feet, so one favorite pastime is to watch the red-tailed hawks catch thermals and circle, circle, circle up into the sky."

If you need to get out, Lake Waramaug, the cleanest large lake in the state, is located nearby, as is the Lake Waramaug Country Club, the 252-acre nature preserve at Camp Francis, Kent Falls State Park, and the Appalachian Trail. A short drive takes you right to the train station to NYC.

Also on the property? A greenhouse, two-stall horse barn, and detached garage featuring a 1,000-square-foot loft.

One last reason to love this land (as if we need one) is the air, Pelosky tells us. "[It's] perfumed by hundreds of acres of woodland. The breeze comes down off the mountain and sweeps across the house on its way to Kent Hollow below. One of our favorite things to do is just sit by the windows at night and let the breeze wash over us. A few days at the house and one is totally recharged and ready to go back to the city."

The property's pool, which Pelosky says Patti dubbed the "Andrew Lloyd Webber pool" and terrace were practically built for entertaining.

"For many years we spent the entire summer at the house, and to see the season unfold was and is a real tonic for one's physical and mental well being: the birdsong in late spring, the fireflies in June, fireworks on the 4th, lazy August days by the pool. Winter means crackling fires with your own wood, sledding down the long driveway, tracking animals in the back woodlands, and ice walking across Lake Waramaug. It's a special, special spot."

Perhaps the most special feature on the site is the Civil War-era cabin, which Pelosky say LuPone's husband, Matt, purchased and deconstructed in his native Indiana, then shipped to the East Coast to rebuild and use as a pool house and guest house (inside is a fireplace, kitchen, bath, and private sleeping loft). "A short walk from the main house, the cabin is dated to 1859 and is a wonderful place to sit porch side on the rocking chair and reflect as well as put pen to paper, or these days, fingers to keyboard," Pelosky says.
