The Whale

Winner of: Best Actor (Brendan Fraser), Best Makeup and Hairstyling

Psychological drama The Whale won two Oscars last night, one for Brendan Fraser's leading role as Charlie and another for the makeup work needed to transform him for the role. RRR

Winner of: Best Original Song (“Naatu Naatu”)

RRR is an Indian epic that has made waves since its release. The song “Naatu Naatu,” which was composed by M.M. Keeravani and performed by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, was featured in the film and won the honor of Best Original Song last night. RRR can be streamed on Netflix and "Naatu Naatu" can be streamed on Spotify.

Winner of: Best Adapted Screenplay

Women Talking is an adaptation of Miriam Toews' novel of the same name and depicts real-life, harrowing events that transpired in Manitoba Colony, Bolivia to a group of women in an isolated religious colony. It took home the award for “Best Adapted Screenplay.” If you'd like to watch it, it can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+.

Avatar: The Way of Water

Winner of: Best Visual Effects 

The original Avatar made a splash when it hit theaters in the early 2010s, driving forward 3D animation and last night, its sequel upheld the legacy of visual fidelity, earning it an Oscar for "Best Visual Effects." Avatar: The Way of the Water is still in theaters and will be released for digital purchase on March 28, though there’s currently no word on when it will be available for streaming.

Winner of: Best Original Score (Volker Bertelmann), Best Production Design, Best International Film (Germany), Best Cinematography 

All Quiet on the Western Front is a German adaptation of the 1929 classic antiwar novel of the same name and it’s safe to say that it was a success in 2022 as it took home the second-highest number of awards last night, including “Best Cinematography” and “Best International Film,” among others. If you'd like to watch it, it can be streamed on Netflix.

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse 

Winner of: Best Animated Short 

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, adapted from the 2019 novel of the same name, is a gorgeous animated short that tells the friendship of the four eponymous main characters. It won an Oscar for “Best Animated Short” and can be streamed on Apple TV+.

The Elephant Whisperers 

Winner of: Best Documentary Short 

It's hard not to like elephants, as evidenced by this adorable documentary short titled The Elephant Whisperers which tells the story of a couple caring for a baby elephant. It caught the heart of the Academy last night and we're sure it'll grab yours, too, once you stream it on Netflix.

'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' is available to watch on Disney+.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a moving tribute to Chadwick Boseman and the legacy he cultivated through his role as the Black Panther. Wakanda Forever is part of a long line of beautiful costume work courtesy of Marvel, a feat recognized by the movie's Oscar win. It can be streamed on Disney+.

Winner of: Best Live Action Short 

An Irish Goodbye tells the story of two estranged brothers reuniting after their mother's death. If you'd like to stream the winner of "Best Live Action Short", you may have to wait a bit, as it currently isn't available on any streaming platforms.

Winner of: Best Documentary Feature 

Navalny tells the story of Alexei Navalny, a Russian lawyer who has opposed the rule of Vladimir Putin, putting his life at risk as a result. If you'd like to learn more about this imprisoned opposition leader, Navalny can be streamed on HBO Max.
