A fawn slipped underwater and didn’t emerge. Sacramento Metro firefighters leaped into action

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District firefighters didn’t have a deer-in-the-headlights moment when they spotted a troubling incident Tuesday.

The scary situation unfolded as a fawn slipped under the surface while attempting to swim across Lake Natoma, Metro Fire said in a social media post.

Firefighters, conducting an annual training at the site, cantered into action and rescued the fawn. It was brought to shore safely, the district said.

Firefighters must undergo an annual training on how to operate three different types of boats and how to conduct search and rescue operations, said Capt. Parker Wilbourn, a Metro Fire spokesman.

Lake Natoma is a reservoir created for releases from Folsom Lake.
