Firefighters respond to landfill fire near Chilliwack

A landfill fire outside Chilliwack, B.C., is sending smoke up into the air in part of the Fraser Valley.

Officials from the City of Chilliwack said Sunday morning that the fire broke out at the landfill at Shxwhá:y Village, also known as the Skway Indian Reserve No. 5, to the west of the city.

"Smoke and smell may disturb residents," the city tweeted Sunday morning at 9:14 a.m. PT.

Local fire departments are responding and about 20 members from the Chilliwack Fire Department are on site, officials said.
