Forecast shows a blast of wintry weather is likely for Chiefs’ game at Broncos

If it’s nearly Halloween, that means a blast of cold air can’t be far behind.

And that’s what we’ll get in Kansas City, but it could be worse. There’s already a Winter Storm Warning in North Dakota. And snow is expected to fall in Denver in the coming days.

That’s noteworthy in Kansas City, because the Chiefs play the Broncos on Sunday. Here’s what the forecast looks like for the game.

“It will be quite a bit colder Saturday and Sunday with temperatures only in the 30s with light snow,” wrote Lisa Hidalgo of Denver7. “Bundle up for the Broncos game — expect light snow and temperatures around 30 degrees!”

Ed Greene of 9 News in Denver said in Thursday morning’s newscast: “Scattered snow showers Sunday and Sunday’s high only 30 degrees.”

CBS Colorado’s Lauren Whitney said on air: “We’ll still have snow on Sunday morning. We said yesterday it may clear in time for the Broncos game. That may not be the case, it may not be until Sunday evening.”

The high temperature on Sunday is expected to be 32 degrees, Whitney noted.

So even if there is little or no snow, it’ll be the coldest game this season for the Chiefs.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked at a news conference Wednesday about the potential of playing in snow. Mahomes, who grew up in Texas, noted that he’s “become accustomed to it here in Kansas City.”

Mahomes also is used to playing the Broncos in wintry weather.

In 2019, the Chiefs beat the Broncos 23-3 in snow at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. A year later, the Chiefs cruised to a 43-16 win at Denver on a snowy field.

Mahomes talked about how playing in snow affects his throws.

“I thought snow was going to be like rain where it gets a little slippery — whereas snow it makes it a little sticky in the air,” Mahomes said. “I think that could be something as far as why. At the end of the day, you just have to go out there and throw it and see what happens.”
