Gananoque, TLTI communities unite to clean up

Last week, the communities of Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands stepped up for the environment.

Staff from each municipality gathered to help clean up their communities as part of Pitch-In Week.

Pitch-In events are dedicated to the preservation and sustainable growth of natural ecosystems and communities.

Gananoque Mayor John Beddows thanked his staff for their participation with this initiative.

“We had a great time getting out and picking up around town,” said Beddows. “It was my privilege to be able to take part along with the committed employees of Gananoque.”

Beddows asked community members to wave and say hello to staff if passing them by while on their day’s journey.

“They do a great job every day,” said Beddows.

Seeley’s Bay had a great turnout for this village Pitch-In, which was hosted by the Seeley’s Bay Area Residents’ Association (SBARA).

Local businesses like Freshmart, Fishermans Hardware and Auto Shop, Rideau Breeze Marina, The Junction Restaurant, and Ridgway Confections all donated generous prizes, while the local Lions Club, firefighters, the Legion and SBARA all worked together for the cleanup.

Organizers say more than 30 community volunteers joined in.

Lyndhurst, Lansdowne and Rockport also had their own Pitch-In events, with councillors Mark Jamison and Angela Kelman taking part.
