Gogglebox star George Gilbey's death leads to arrest
An arrest has been made in connection with the death of former Gogglebox star George Gilbey.
According to BBC News, Essex Police have arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in connection with Gilbey's death at a manufacturing business in Shoebury.
A police spokesperson said: "This is a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and our inquiries are ongoing."
A HSE representative added: "We are aware of the incident and [are] working with Essex Police in their investigation."
The tragic news of Gilbey's death was announced on Wednesday (March 28), when Gogglebox released a statement paying tribute to the star.
"George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and stepdad Pete," a show spokesperson told Digital Spy. "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George's family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy.”
George was a cast member on the Channel 4 show from 2013 through 2016, alongside his mother Linda and late stepfather Pete. He also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, where he had an on-screen romance with Made in Chelsea's Stephanie Pratt.

His CBB co-star Ricci Guarnaccio was among those to pay tribute to George on social media, writing on Twitter / X: "Breaks my heart but @georgegilbey you are well and truly going to be missed my friend. Always lit up the room, cared for others and the memories we made I'll cherish forever brother. From CBB to speaking to you last week, I'm going to hugely miss you ma boiii! Love you GG."
Former Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb wrote on social media: "Very sad, sending our love to Linda and family."
"Such sad and shocking news. All our love thoughts and prayers to George's family and friends during this really hard time for them all," Gogglebox star Baasit Siddiqui added.
