Harry and Meghan Make a Fabulous Appearance at Their First Trooping the Colour
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got back in a carriage a few weeks after their fairy-tale wedding in Windsor.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are back in a carriage again, less than month after their fairy-tale wedding in Windsor.
But this time, it’s for Trooping the Colour, the Queen’s annual birthday celebration, which is marked by a grand military parade.
Harry wore a ceremonial uniform, and Meghan donned a pink, off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera dress with a Philip Treacy hat. She styled her hair in loose waves. As they rode through London, the Duchess beamed and waved to the crowd.
In a carriage ahead of them was Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. They coordinated together in pale blue. Middleton’s dress was by Alexander McQueen (the same designer she wore to Harry and Meghan’s wedding).
In fact, all the royals were in the parade: Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Prince William, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, and of course, the Queen Elizabeth. She rode in a carriage by herself—although it is still possible that Prince Philip will join her later on the Buckingham Palace balcony. In her radiant, sky blue Stuart Parvin dress and Angela Kelly hat, the crowds could spot her from a mile away.
Queen Elizabeth has been to every single Trooping the Colour during her reign, except for one, which was cancelled due to a strike. The grand event features over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, 400 musicians, and several fighter jets. With all its horsemanship and fanfare, it’s the epitome of British pomp and circumstance, and one of the most anticipated royal events of the year. After all, who doesn’t love it when the family gets together?
