UPDATE: Heat advisory affecting North Texas until Sunday evening, according to the NWS

An updated heat advisory was issued by the National Weather Service on Saturday at 7:07 p.m. The advisory is for Montague, Cooke, Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Young, Jack, Wise, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Delta, Hopkins, Palo Pinto, Parker, Tarrant, Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Rains, Hood, Somervell, Johnson, Ellis, Henderson, Bosque, Hill, Navarro, Freestone, Anderson, McLennan, Limestone and Leon counties.

Heat index values up to 108 degrees for portions of north central and northeast Texas until 7 p.m. Sunday.

"Hot temperatures and high humidity will increase the risk for heat-related illnesses to occur, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," adds the NWS.

This advisory is in effect until Sunday at 7 p.m.

NWS Heat Wave Safety Advice: Protect yourself with these recommendations

• Consume plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

• Seek cool shelter: Opt for an air-conditioned room to stay comfortable.

• Avoid direct sun exposure: Protect yourself and check on vulnerable relatives and neighbors.

• Child and pet safety: Do not leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

• Be mindful outdoors: Take extra precautions when working or spending time outside.

• Find the right time: Consider rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening if possible.

• Familiarize yourself with warning signs: Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

• Stay cool with clothing: Select lightweight and loose-fitting outfits for enhanced comfort.

For a safer outdoor work environment, follow the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)'s guidance by scheduling regular rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned places. If anyone shows signs of heat illness, promptly move them to a cool, shaded area. In an emergency, call 911.
