Hollyoaks has hinted at an emotional storyline for Joel Dexter next week.

Following on from last week's scene where he appeared faint, Joel's health appears to be a factor for an upcoming storyline.

In upcoming scenes, Leela Lomax plucks up the courage to ask Joel to move back in, after he moved in with his father when Juliet's battle with cancer became terminal.

After he agrees, she pushes the matter further, asking what is happening between the pair of them.

Joel suggests that it is time for them to take it one step further and go on an actual first date.

Donna-Marie sees an excited Leela dressed up outside the flat and guesses she's meeting a man. Leela decides it is best to come clean and reveals that she and Joel have chosen to be exclusive.

Leela's excitement soon turns to disappointment, as moments before she heads off, she receives a devastated text from Joel, cancelling their date.

Down on her luck, Leela bumps into Maxine while out and about and brings up how Joel stood her up.

This prompts Maxine to admit that it was her fault that Joel ditched her as she had persuaded him to go for a drink with Sam, who was struggling.

Later on, Joel helps Leela train in preparation for her reapplying for the fire service. As the pair work up a sweat, she tells Joel that he should apply.

However, their training session in the park seems a step too far for Joel as he falters again and struggles momentarily, before brushing it off and carrying on.

Will Joel push himself to his limit? Will his condition get worse?
