Houston County doctor arrested on three drug offenses. Here’s what we know.

Warner Robins doctor Alan Struth is being held without bond on drug charges over allegations of improper prescribing, Houston County officials confirmed Tuesday.

Struth, a 74-year-old internal medicine doctor at Houston Healthcare, was arrested Monday after a joint investigation by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Task Force, said Lt. Matt Moulton with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

He faces three counts of “attempt or conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substance Act.”

Moulton said the investigation started in March after several prescription pads from the doctor were found in another person’s house, though Moulton said that was an unrelated incident.

Through the investigation, it was discovered that the doctor was writing prescriptions for controlled substances to people who were not patients of his, said Moulton.

Moulton explained that although the prescriptions were under different names, it is believed that one woman was filling all the prescriptions.

“It seems like the prescriptions were being filled by one person,” said Moulton.

In one case, one of the persons who was allegedly provided a prescription was incarcerated when eight of the prescriptions were filled.

According to 13WMAZ, the arrest warrant for Struth said he, and a woman, Karen Steele, are accused of distribution of a controlled substance and conspiring to get 1,422 dosage units of Hydrocodone and Oxycodone and 5,850 dosage units of Alprazolam.

Moulton said the incident was still under investigation Tuesday.
