Injured kitten makes surprise visit to Grade 3 students
Henry, the injured kitten who captured the hearts of Edmonton animal lovers after he was found beside a highway two weeks ago, made a surprise visit to an elementary school on Wednesday.
The 10-week-old grey tabby was taken to the Edmonton Humane Society with a gaping wound and exposed tendons on a back leg. and a badly dislocated front leg.
Since then, staff at the humane society have shared Henry's story through social media and news stories. They have also been raising money for his medical treatment though the GoFundMe website.
His story caught the attention of Grade 3 students at Leo Nickerson School in St. Albert who made get-well cards for Henry.
Sue O'Connor, manager of fund development and communications with the humane society, said staff were touched by the students' gesture.
"We opened up the package this morning and there were all these cards wishing Henry the best and telling him he was strong," she said.
"So we wanted to bring him here to surprise them and to say thank you for what they've done."
Students gasped with surprise when O'Connor stepped into the classroom cradling Henry in her arms.
After O'Connor answered their questions, she handed Henry over to their teacher.
Students lined up to pet the kitten, while he dozed in her arms.
O'Connor said bandages have come off Henry's back leg. He remains with a foster family while the rest of his injuries heal.
O'Connor said Henry's prognosis is good and he should eventually be available for adoption.
