Jerry Seinfeld Doesn't Have 'Any Interest' in Turning 70 — and Will Not Be Throwing a Birthday Party

Jerry Seinfeld is not keen on his upcoming birthday.

Seinfeld, who turns 70 on April 29, admitted he's lukewarm about the milestone birthday during his April 24 appearance on Today with Hoda and Jenna. "I don't really have any interest in it," he told cohosts Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb, after they asked how he feels about turning 70.

"You know what it is? It's 'Boy, I could really live with a lot less stuff. Things, people, activities — I'm not doing nothing anymore,' " he added.

When Bush Hager, 42, asked Seinfeld if he will hold a party, the comedian — who is currently promoting his new Netflix movie Unfrosted — responded with an emphatic "No" and instead said he will eat chicken Parmesan.

"Well, this was the new thing," he added, after he was asked whether he is trying anything new at this stage in his life. Seinfeld makes his directorial debut in Unfrosted, which he also stars in. "Directing, yeah — it's really just, someone's got to tell these people what to do. Do you want to do it, or should we get somebody else to do it?' I just go, 'I'll tell them.' "

Seinfeld has long appeared skeptical of birthdays and birthday parties. He told David Letterman during a 2008 appearance on The Late Show that he hates "everything about" birthday parties and specifically said he hates piñatas at children's birthday parties. His iconic television series Seinfeld notably included multiple bits regarding existential dread around aging.

Seinfeld's new movie follows the fictional tale of the invention of the popular Pop-Tart toaster pastries. He acts in the film alongside an ensemble cast that features Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, Amy Schumer, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Bill Burr, Daniel Levy, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, Bobby Moynihan, Adrian Martinez, Sarah Cooper and Fred Armisen.

"The way you do it now, as you probably know, is you do the scene, you do it three or four times, and then as you walk off the set you go 'playback!' And by the time you get to the monitor, it's playing back," he told Kotb and Bush Hager of directing himself as an actor. "You go, 'Yeah, no no, that's good enough. Move on.' But I'm not really acting anyway. I'm just me. That's what I did on the TV series. Same guy on the other side of the camera."

Unfrosted begins streaming on Netflix May 3.
