Jimmy Carter Appears at Peanut Festival Ahead of 99th Birthday

Former US President Jimmy Carter and his wife made a rare public appearance at the annual Plains Peanut Festival in Georgia, on Saturday, September 23, ahead of his 99th birthday on October 1.

Footage shows the couple riding through Carter’s hometown in a black SUV as spectators wave and cheer.

The Carter Center, a nonprofit founded by Carter in 1982, reshared the video on X, formerly Twitter.

“Beautiful day for President & Mrs. Carter to enjoy a ride through the Plains Peanut Festival! And just a week before he turns 99,” the center wrote. “We’re betting peanut butter ice cream is on the menu for lunch!” they added.

It was the first public appearance for the former president since going into hospice care seven months earlier. Credit: Erikka Bettis Williams via Storyful
