About Oklahoma State (9-12, 1-7)

The Cowboys are coming off an 83-54 road loss against the Kansas Jayhawks. It was their seventh loss in eight games. Oklahoma State has struggled throughout Big 12 play, but things are about to get even harder for Mike Boynton’s team now that starting guard Bryce Thompson is out with an injury. He was averaging 11.6 points per game for the Cowboys. Without him, only Javon Small is currently averaging more than 10 points. Offense could be a challenge for OSU moving forward.

About Kansas State (14-7, 4-4)

The Wildcats are coming off 73-53 home loss against Oklahoma that dropped them to .500 in conference play. K-State has been playing strong defense all season, but its offense has not been up to par of late. Jerome Tang’s team is only averaging 65.8 points per game in Big 12 play. It failed to score 55 points in its past two games. Tylor Perry scored 23 against the Sooners, but he got little help from his teammates. The Wildcats will look to change that against the Cowboys.

K-State at Oklahoma State score prediction

Points could be hard to come by for both teams in this game.

Kansas State ranks inside the top 25 nationally in defensive efficiency but outside the top 165 when it comes to offense. Oklahoma State isn’t far off, ranking inside the top 70 on defense and outside the top 190 in offense.

In other words, both of these teams can get stops. They just don’t get make all that money buckets.

That could make it extremely difficult for Oklahoma State to overcome the loss of Bryce Thompson on Saturday. Take a double-digit scorer away from the Cowboys and their offense could turn into a rudderless ship. Imagine the Wildcats trying to play without Cam Carter, Arthur Kaluma or Tylor Perry. That’s what OSU will be dealing with in this game.

With that in mind, it’s hard not to pick K-State here.

Yes, rival Kansas is next up on the schedule. But Jerome Tang isn’t much of a coach if he allows his players to overlook a team like Oklahoma State, especially on a three-game losing streak, just because the Jayhawks are coming to town on Monday.

The one thing the Wildcats need to be careful about is turnovers. They tend to give the ball away at a high rate, and the Cowboys are good are creating turnovers on defense. That is what kept this game close when K-State and OSU played inside Bramlage Coliseum last month.

Losing big to Oklahoma earlier this week should help K-State focus here.

I expect a spirited effort from K-State in Stillwater, which should be enough for the Wildcats to win and cover.
