Prince George has a royal destiny ahead, but Kate Middleton says he must tackle the classroom first.

The Princess of Wales, 41, shared her eldest son’s relatable take on testing in schools while visiting Fitzalan High School in Cardiff, Wales on Tuesday. The revelation came following news that Princess Kate will not join Prince William at the 2023 Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in Singapore on Nov. 7 to look after Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, during an important exam week for George at school.

In a clip shared on TikTok by Matt Wilkinson of The Sun, Kate sat at a table of students and said, “George is just at the beginning of being tested. He says, ‘Mummy, I keep getting tested all the time.’ But when it gets to A-levels you feel like you're on it.”

The comment came was Kate’s second reference to her eldest son’s studies during her trip to Cardiff with William, which began with a stop at Grange Pavilion to meet members of the Windrush generation and young minority ethnic individuals driving positive change in Wales.

During a chat with local children, the parents of three connected with a group of elementary school students. Gracie, 11, from Howardian Primary School, said Kate asked her what subjects she enjoyed. “I said I like maths and like our teachers teaching us. And she said I could teach [Prince] George some maths!”

While math is surely on the schedule, Prince George is many years away from A-levels, which are rigorous subject-based tests typically used to qualify for college in the U.K.

During the busy visit to Fitzalan High School, William and Kate connected with sixth-form students (the American equivalent of 12th grade) pursuing both A-level and vocational studies, plus the English for Speakers of Other Language provision, and got to see some of their lessons. The royal couple traveled to Wales on Tuesday to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush's arrival in London, and the October start of Black History Month in the U.K.

“They’ve shone a light on a community that has been written out of history. It is a light that cannot be extinguished. These elders will take this to their grave,” Professor Uzo Iwobi exclusively tells PEOPLE about the excitement around having the Prince and Princess of Wales visit the elders at the Grange Pavilion.

“They will never forget that one of the biggest leaders of their nation remembered them, traveled all this way and said thank you,” adds Iwobi, who is the founder of Race Council Cymru and oversees the work of Windrush Cymru.

Prince William and Princess Kate’s latest outing marked their first joint appearance since it was confirmed that the Princess of Wales will not join her husband at the upcoming Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony. PEOPLE understands that Prince George has school exams that week, and his mother will be at home in Windsor to support him.

The news came after Prince William officially confirmed he would travel to Singapore for the special event during the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit in New York City on Sept. 19.

Kate will break tradition when she misses the third annual awards ceremony, which she has attended for the last two years. William launched the Earthshot Prize in 2020 to promote impactful approaches to the world's most pressing environmental challenges, with plans to award the prizes until 2030.

The inaugural awards ceremony for the prestigious environmental prize was held in London in October 2021, followed by a second cycle in Boston in December 2022. Last year, Kate presented the “Clean Our Air” award on stage, and she recently joined William on a visit to Notpla, the sustainable packaging start-up and winner of the 2022 Earthshot Prize for "Build a Waste-Free World” during their Sept. 8 visit to Wales.

Earlier that week, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis headed back to the classroom at the Lambrook School in the Berkshire countryside. Though the siblings returned together for their second year at the prep school, Kate and William didn’t release a back-to-school portrait to the public. That's because the Prince and Princess of Wales treat school as a private area of their children's live so they can grow up in as pressure-free an atmosphere as possible.

Last year, fans got a glimpse of the Wales family walking into preview day at Lambrook, where George, Charlotte and Louis enrolled as new pupils following the family’s move from London to Windsor.
