King Charles is on the mend.

The King, 75, greeted well-wishers outside St. Mary Magdalene Church near Sandringham on Sunday with a cheery wave as he was seen for the first time since leaving the hospital last Monday.

A week on from his operation for an enlarged prostate, he was accompanied by his wife, Queen Camilla, as they both walked to Sunday services near their country home in Norfolk, England. The royals were also pictured with the Rev. Canon Dr. Paul Williams, the Rector of Sandringham.

While King Charles has largely been out of sight due to his condition — which was first revealed on Jan. 17 — Queen Camilla, 76, has been carrying out a series of solo royal engagements.

The couple's appearance came as it was also revealed in U.K. newspaper The Sunday Times that King Charles has appointed a new assistant equerry, Capt. Kat Anderson, 33. The former Royal Artillery officer is the first woman to serve a British monarch in the key role and will be King Charles' assistant focusing on foreign trips.

Tomorrow, Feb. 6, is a poignant date for King Charles and the royal family. It is the anniversary of the death of his grandfather George VI – a moment that was always marked by the late Queen Elizabeth at Sandringham. It was at the estate in 1952 that George VI died, making his daughter Elizabeth the new monarch.

Queen Elizabeth died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland in September 2022, and King Charles immediately acceded to the throne.
